Hat Fitz
Sunday 19th July - 8pm - Free The Listening Room @ The Georgian Hotel 26 Lefroy Street, Coatbridge Tel: 01236 421888
Hat Fitz makes a statement the moment he takes to
the stage. Could it be the long beard, the sun tan or
the slightly skewed hat? No, it is his overwhelming
stage presence that hold your gaze. Having been touring
in Europe for several month, Hat has found himself based
in Ireland where he has been warming the hearts of the
locals with a series of show stealing performances at
festivals. His music is not complicated. It is blues.
Music that could be straight out of the Mississippi
delta rather than from South Queensland, Australia,
but is has an infectiousness that really gets into
your soul. Of course, it is the man himself that makes
it so and boy, does he knows how to entertain.
The comparisons to Seasick Steve are justified as
they share a kindred love for the blues and both play
slide guitar, but where Hat Fitz wins it is in his stage
performance. The Duracell bunny looks positively tame
compared to the big Aussie. This was evident at this
years Shetland Folk Festival, where the Shetland Times
headline was "Wild man from Oz stood out among fiddle
groups and wispy female singers."
So, now it is the rest of Scotland's chance to succumb
to the charms of the big man as he prepares for a series
of dates through out the country taking him from wilds of
the Isle of Skye to slightly more serene seaside town of
Largs. One thing is for sure, the bigger stage beckons,
so catch him now before he is a household name.
Hat will be joined by Irish singer songwriter Cara
Robinson. Cara has toured as a backing singer with acts
including Corrine Baily Rae and David Holmes, but has
now stepped out of the shadows with her debut album
'Keep'er Lit' and established herself as one of Ireland's
most promising talents.
